Malpractice Case to Focus on 'Suffering' Damages

Over $90 million was reportedly awarded to a family for the pain and suffering of their daughter – an unprecedented amount, according to a Port Times Herald article.

While a jury recently claimed that a Bayport family was due $130 million in damages after their daughter developed cerebral palsy following a birth at St. Charles Hospital, a Port Times Herald article noted that part of that total is still subject to change.

The article notes that the jury awarded a total of $92.5 million for pain and suffering – $10 million for the past, and the rest for the future. That total is reportedly the highest in state history.

Shannon Reilly, born in 2002, has needed special treatment due to the limiting nature of her condition; she cannot speak, walk, write or even swallow without help.
