Hundreds of people gathered in Port Jefferson village on Sunday for the annual "Easter Bonnet" Walking Parade and Egg Hunt, according to the Chamber of Commerce, the sponsor of the event.

At noon on Easter Sunday people gathered in front of Theatre Three to march down Main Street to the Port Jefferson Village Center. Kids were then invited to join in on an Easter Egg Hunt on the great lawn at Harborfront Park.

This year the crowd was bigger than ever said Barbara Ransome, director of operations for the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce.

"I feel that the crowd was even larger than last year," she said. "Hard to believe, since last year we estimated 500 people attended and participated..."

In the crowd was a noticible mix of cultures enjoying the day, according to Ransome who noted that among others, Asian, Indian, Russian and Spanish families all came together in Port Jefferson to celebrate the holiday.

She said that they gave away 50 pounds of candy during the event.

"I'm proud if this annual tradition hosted and sponsored by the Chamber," said Mayor Margot Garant in an email to Patch. "It gives everyone that chance to gather for the first touch of spring in the air."
