Phountain Springs up in Port

Store selling alkaline water will open on East Main Street on June 2.

Alkaline water shop and health boutique Phountain is set to open its newest shop on East Main Street in Port Jefferson.

According to Xio Mely, an associate at the Chain's Smithtown store, the shop will open on June 2.

The windows at the 121 East Main Street storefront are already decorated with some of the shop's healthy products.

Phountain primarily sells alkaline water, which is water whose pH levels are adjusted to remove acidity.

“We are born alkaline, we die acidic," associate Michael Mastrantuono told Patch in April. "The idea is to maintain the body in an alkaline state, because as long as you do so diseases, infections, bacteria have a very, very difficult time living in the human body.”

Mastrantuono compared the human body to a swimming pool: “As long as you keep your swimming pool alkaline – that’s the reason people put chlorine in it and they’re always testing their pH – [there will be] no fungus, no germs, no bacteria, no disease, no infection, no microorganisms.”

In addition to Smithtown, which opened in April, Phountain has stores in West Islip, Sayville, Commack, East Islip and Massapequa.

Locals can refill canisters with alkaline water at Phountain, but the store also sells a variety of health foods and products as well as holds classes on detoxification.
