Maya Passer was born and raised in Kharkov in the Ukraine. She received her musical training and Master’s Degree in music from the Kharkov State Conservatory of Music. She was the principal harpist in the Donetsk State symphony for 15 years and headed the harp music department. While with the state symphony Mrs. Passer worked with well-known Russian composers and conductors including Shostakovich and Khachaturian. After she emigrated from the Soviet Union to the United States in 1977, she did a variety of work playing an original production of “Fantastiks” in New York City and “Sound of Music” in North Stage Theater on Long Island.
