Blogger: Library Contest Helps Kids Fall in Love With Books

Port Jefferson Librarian announces winner of contest on Patch.

Children's Librarian Margaret Smith took to her blog on Patch to help announce one of the winners of the Port Jefferson Library’s "Fall in Love with a Book" contest for readers.

As a part of the contest young Tucker Stanton took home one of the wrapped books provided by the library to read and return with a form filled out asking if he enjoyed the book.

“Each wrapped book came with a raffle ticket inside, which the patron returned with the book, for a chance to win one of three $10 gift certificates to Best Bargain Books (one in each department),” explained Smith in an email to Patch.

According to Smith, the idea of offering a wrapped, unidentified book for people to take home during the contest was for patrons to find a new favorite author or title that they might not have otherwise selected.

“As you can see from Tucker's story, he found a new favorite series to enjoy,” she said. “He was not alone - we had several patrons and their parents reporting that their ‘mystery book’ was a winner. “
