Motorcycle Season Brings New Kind of Debate to Port Jefferson

Motorcycle riders have had a hard time of it in Port Jefferson. Some said they’re too noisy and the village doesn’t need them. Others welcome the riders with open arms with businesses that cater specifically to them like the .

Despite the controversy, inroads have been made with a free parking program sponsored by the Business Improvement District last year. On any given sunny day, the riders congregate in the Brookhaven Town lot to shoot the breeze and take in the same beautiful sights that everyone else loves.

One motorcyclist and blogger whose Twitter persona is @FuzzyGalore (a James Bond reference perhaps?) pointed out that sometimes the debate gets specific in a graffiti war on the benches downport.

Face it, not all motorcycles are created equally and neither are all motorcycle riders. Some like Harley-Davidson, some don’t as evidenced by the proliferation of anti-Harley scribbling that Rachael (her real name according to her bio) found on and posted on her blog on Monday.

“Harley-Davidson seems to be one motorcycle brand that many people are very vocal about their love or dislike of,” she wrote.
