Miller Place-Rocky Point

Twelve-year-old John Vento was seriously injured when he was struck by a car on Plandome Road in Sound Beach Thursday, according to Suffolk Police. Vento was thrown from the dirt bike, struck the taxi and fell to the ground. Seventh Precinct Patrol Officer Jamie Rios, with the help of a Good Samaritan, performed CPR on Vento until an ambulance arrived.

Smithtown

The will put forth a $215,826,595 budget for the 2012-13 school year.

The budget, which was announced Wednesday at the community budget information meeting, is a 1.63 percent increase from the adopted 2011-12 budget of $212,361,285. It includes multiple cuts to teachers and staff.

Riverhead

After almost three hours of heated public protest, the Riverhead Town Board voted unanimously -- Councilwoman Jodi Giglio was absent -- in favor of two controversial special use permits that would allow for bistros and professional offices at a proposed development in Jamesport.

North Fork

An audit by the State Comptroller's office released on Wednesday found that the Mattituck Park District did not have effective controls on its district credit cards in the period the state looked at its books, from January 2010 through June 2011.

According to the audit, over $6,000 in purchases were made without adequate supporting documentation. The district had no credit card policy at the time of the audit, according to the Comptroller's Office.
