The Week Ahead: Village Public Forum, School Board, Special Election

Here's what's happening in Port Jefferson this week.

There are a number of compelling community happenings this week – plus, the much-anticipated special election for Brookhaven town highway superintendent will take place on Tuesday. Here's a look at what's happening this week in the Port Jefferson area:

1. On Monday night at 7 p.m., Port Jefferson village will hold its monthly public forum at village hall. One topic of discussion is the extension of enforcement times for parking meters.

2. The Comsewogue school board will meet Monday night at 8 p.m.

3. Tuesday is the Town of Brookhaven's special election for the post of highway superintendent; vote at your regular polling place. Republican Dan Losquadro is facing off against Kathy Walsh, an Independence party member running on the Democratic ticket, and a handful of write-in candidates are hopefuls for the post as well.

4. Are you searching for a new job? This seminar at Port Jefferson Free Library on Tuesday at 7 p.m., entitled "Job Search Secrets," might help.

5. On Wednesday, PJ Cinemas will screen a documentary: BURN: One Year on the Front Lines in the Battle to Save Detroit, which depicts the lives of the firefighters in Detroit's busiest fire company as they struggle through adversity to serve their city.
