Nurse Patient ratios what hospitals do no want you to know

Are nurses taking care of too many patients?

Who would you rather have take care of your loved one an RN taking care of 8,9,10 or more patients or an RN taking care of 4 patients. Research from leading organizations such as the AMA, CMS and others along with leading nurse researchers Linda Akiens have found that as a nurses workload increases the risk of death and complications goes up. Proper nurse to patient staffing has been proven to reduce complications such as infection, falls, and failure to rescue. Why won't hospitals staff properly? The answer is greed. Hospital administrators are in it for the money. They consistently pay themselves exorbitant salaries while patients and their families suffer. Hospitals continually short staff hospital units to maximize their profits, pay bonuses to management while patients suffer. There is currently legislation before the NYS senate and assembly to govern how many patients a nurse can safely care for. Public support is needed for this crucial and important legislation. Call your assemblyman/woman and state senator and tell them to pass safe staffing legislation now. It's a matter of life or death. Someday your life may depend on a nurse. Who do you want taking care of you or your loved one?
