Zoning in on Outstanding Achievement

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School seniors Olivia Racanelli and Hunter Reiter were named the 2013-2014 Suffolk Zone Award recipients at the Suffolk Zone dinner on Dec. 4.

“Olivia and Hunter have proven themselves to our physical education teachers and their school community as being students with exceptional physical performances, scholastic abilities and leadership qualities,” said Debra Ferry, Port Jefferson director of health, physical education and athletics. “Their performance and participation in physical education has earned them this well-deserved recognition.”

The award, given by the Suffolk Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, is presented to one male and one female nominee from each Suffolk County high school. Also in attendance were the students’ family members, Port Jefferson School District physical education teachers Dinarae Camarda, Andrew Cosci and James Mimnaugh, Earl L. Vandermeulen High School Principal Dr. Matthew Murphy and Ferry.
