Cab Crashes in Mount Sinai After Passengers Pull Weapon on Driver

Taxi crashed on Sunoco gas station property on Route 25A early Saturday morning.

When two men got into a taxi somewhere on Pine Street in Port Jefferson Station early Saturday morning and brandished a weapon, the cab driver crashed into the Sunoco gas station at the corner of Mt. Sinai Avenue and Route 25A in Mount Sinai, according to police.

Someone near the incident when it happened who did not want to be identified said that one of the men might have pulled out a shotgun after getting into the car and threatened the cabbie. It’s unclear why the vehicle crashed but a police officer at the scene of the accident on Saturday morning said he thought that the cab driver was wrestling with the gunman while he was driving.

The taxi crashed around 2:26 a.m. Two of the men were pinned inside the car. When police arrived they secured the area and emergency medical services took all three men to Stony Brook Medical Center.

At around 8 a.m. on Saturday police still had Mt. Sinai Avenue and part of the parking lot taped off although the station was open for business. An industrial car vacuum was lying on its side, the gas station road sign was bent and broken and glass and metal was strewn across the property.

While crews worked to clean up the damage someone at the scene who wished not to be identified said that the gun might have gone off at some point because empty shells were found among the debris, but that was not confirmed by police.
