Crimes Nearby: Cops Say Drunk Driver Sideswiped Car, Crashed into Tree

SMITHTOWN

Andre Machate, 41, of Smithtown, was arrested July 12 and charged with carrying a criminal weapon. Machate was on Lake Avenue in St. James when he was arrested for allegedly possessing a weapon, police said. He was charged because of a previous conviction against him which prohibits him from carrying weapons, police said.

A 17-year-old Smithtown boy was arrested on burglary charges on July 9. Police said he was accused of breaking into a residency on February 26 and arrested at the precinct in Smithtown, said police. According to police, the 17-year-old stole a safe that contained jewelry and cash from a home on Summerset Drive in Smithtown.

MILLER PLACE-ROCKY POINT

Thomas Gonzalez, 39, of Sound Beach, was arrested July 9 and charged with grand larceny (property value greater than $1,000). Gonzalez allegedly stole money from his employer, United Chimney Corporation.

Patsy Bellomo, 54, of Mt. Sinai, was arrested July 8 and charged with third degree assault with intent to cause physical injury. Bellomo allegedly punched someone in the face on Route 25A in Rocky Point.

Michael O'Connell, 35, of Rocky Point, was arrested July 7 and charged with first-offense DWI. Police said O'Connell drove 75 mph in a 35 mph zone and ran a red light. He appeared to be intoxicated when stopped, according to police.

HAUPPAUGE

Kyle Eric Norton, 36, of Islandia, was arrested July 8 on charges of assault with the intention to cause injury. Norton allegedly grabbed a female by the throat, causing scratches to her face and neck and also injuries to her jaw, police said. He was arrested on Nichols Road and Midwood in Nesconset.

Brandon Bustamante, 38, of Hauppauge, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property. According to police, Bustamante had taken jewelry from a female victim and was arrested at the Central Islip court.

COMMACK

Michael Stroman, 30, of Jamaica, was arrested and charged with petty larceny on July 13. Police said, Stroman was caught stealing a saw blade from a store at 10 a.m. on Crooked Hill Road in Commack.

Rachel Dreher, 35, of East Northport, was arrested on first-offense DWI charges on July 11. Police said that Dreher was at 11:30 p.m. in her 2006 Acura, where she crashed into a parked car and continued driving where she crossed over to the wrong side of the road and hit a tree.
