Police: Port Jeff Man Who Flipped Dump Truck Was Unlicensed

Jaws of life were used to save trapped driver after his truck overturned in Miller Place on Monday morning.

According to police, Gregory Vanostrand, 34, of Port Jefferson, was injured in an accident Monday morning at about 8:15 a.m. in Miller Place when the dump truck he was driving overturned.

Rescuers from Miller Place Fire Department used the jaws of life to extricate Vanostrand who was trapped underneath the steering wheel. He was taken to Stony Brook University Medical center for his injuries.

Police say that Vanostrand was cited for second degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

The truck overturned near the intersection of North Country Road and Hancock Place.

The eastbound lane of North Country Road was closed as Verizon and the Long Island Power Authority worked on a utility pole that was struck during the accident. The truck did not dump any debris.
