Man Assaulted Near El Limeno Deli in Port Jefferson

One man fled after altercation left another beaten, unconscious.

A man was taken to the hospital after he was hit in the face on Saturday afternoon at the corner of Main Street and Linden Place in Port Jefferson. Police said that at about 1 p.m. two unidentified men got into a fight in front of El Limeno Deli. One of the men suffered facial injuries and the other fled the scene, according to police. It is not known what prompted incident.

Someone who had knowledge of the incident but did not wish to be identified said that there was a dispute between some locals who were hanging out in front of the deli and one of the men was unconscious when an ambulance arrived on the scene. He is said to have been taken to Stony Brook Hospital but police could not confirm where he was taken or if he was hospitalized.

Police said that the investigation is ongoing.
