New Commanding Officer in Sixth Precinct

Inspector Thomas Palmieri stepped into his new role last week.

Suffolk County Police Department's Sixth Precinct has a new commanding officer.

Inspector Thomas Palmieri started filling the roles of former Inspector Robert Oswald last Monday, according to Suffolk County Police, after Oswald was reportedly transferred to police headquarters.

The Port Times Record reported last week that Oswald – who took over the commanding officer role in November of 2009 – will now work as the department's chief of support services, which includes payroll, personnel and supplies duties.

Palmieri brings nearly 30 years of experience in several SCPD roles to his new position, including time as a patrol officer in the Sixth Precinct and most recently as a Deputy Inspector in the Office of the Chief of Patrol. He has also worked in the Fourth, Fifth and Seventh Precincts as well.

Upper Port was FLOODED with cops yesterday & looks like they are setting up again today...The usual's (like 607), unmarked cars, COPE, even SCPD Marine force tucked in driveways, side streets, driving up and down Main St...While the knee jerk reaction is to think "of course, it's the end of the month ticket blitz", BUT, it appears to be more than that normal monthly occurrence...Could it be possible that Inspector Thomas Palmieri is aware of the issues plaguing the area and is starting his tenure by seriously cracking down in the area?....Time will tell, but one can hope!!!

I guess that's Oswald really didn't give a rats bottom at the civic meeting when he avoided answerinh questions and tried to feed us the baloney that arrests were down. Of course there down, if you don't make them they're down - he never said crime was down! Good riddance - I guess he kissed enough dupa to be paid a fantastic salary and benefits to do payroll papaerwork and order pens and pencils. Really? Can't a civilian do this job for less? Good luck to Inspector Thomas Palmieri, hopefully he will be honest, see the problems and really take care of them! I know some wannabe politicians will be cozying up to him, please don't be fooled by them Inspector!
