Police Officer Revives Man Overdosing on Heroin

Rescue occurred Saturday morning in Port Jefferson.

A Suffolk County police officer on Saturday revived a 21-year-old Port Jefferson man who was experiencing a heroin overdose.

Sixth Precinct Police Officer James Parkinson responded at 10:41 a.m. to a home on Midland Avenue in Port Jefferson, administering oxygen and intranasal Narcan. The man regained consciousness and was taken to Mather Memorial Hospital.

The rescue marked another victim helped by a Narcan pilot program the Suffolk County Police Department is currently participating in. Since its introduction in May of 2012, dozens of lives have been saved throughout Suffolk County by first responders who have administered the anti-opiate overdose drug.
