Port Jefferson Emergency Medical Service Newbies Practice On Dummy

EMS workers use a LUCAS 2 machine to perform CPR compressions in exercise drill

To help make sure they are up to par with their co-workers, two new emergency medical workers re-enact a fake emergency to hone in on their skills. The Port Jefferson EMS said these types of drills are normal behavior and are done on a constant basis to make sure all emergency professionals are ready for anything in the field.

The team also got to take advantage of a new automatic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) machine called, LUCAS 2. It comes with a back plate that slips just underneath the patient’s armpits and a plunger set that hovers above the patient clicking into the back plate. Once in place, the new plunger is able to perform compressions just as an emergency professional would.
