Thief Takes $450 Worth of Items From CVS in Port Jeff Station

An unidentified man left the CVS in the Port Plaza Shopping Center with $450 in stolen items.

An unidentified black male stole medicine and dental products worth $450 from the in the Port Plazza Shopping Center in Port Jefferson Station.

At about 5:40 p.m. on Feb. 25 an employee heard the store’s alarm go off as the thief ran out of the store with 13 bottles of Tylenol cold medicine worth about $400 and 3 boxes of Colgate teeth whitener worth about $50, according to a Suffolk County Police report out of the sixth precinct.

This is the same location where more than a thousand dollars in items on Jan. 6.

Police could not say exactly what the thief would use the products for but speculated that they could possibly be used to make illegal drugs. Chemicals in some cold medicines are sometimes used to make Methamphetamine or as it sometimes known, Crystal Meth. It is unclear if the product stolen contained the ingredients needed to make Crystal Meth.

“A lot of times they go and sell it to other places looking to buy it,” said Sergeant Todd Barone from Suffolk Police Department’s sixth precinct. “Another store that’s not on the up and up will buy it at a discounted rate put their own price sticker on it and resell it.”

Barone said that the police tried to work their own leads on the case but haven’t come up with anything so they sent it over to the Suffolk County Crime Stoppers unit to publicize the case and the photos of the suspect.

“A lot a times we don’t have much to go on but if we have a good still picture,” he said.

He said that the police hope someone will recognize the thief from the photo.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5000.00 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.  All calls will be kept confidential.
