Fence Repairs at McAllister Park Set in Suffolk's Capital Budget

County Legislator Kara Hahn reports $1 million will likely be allocated for local capital projects.

Some local projects affecting the Port Jefferson community will likely be funded following the county legislature's adoption of its 2013-2015 capital budget on Tuesday.

Suffolk Legis. Kara Hahn, D-Setauket, said in a statement Wednesday that about $1 million will likely fund a handful of projects, contingent upon County Executive Steve Bellone signing off on the capital budget, affecting Port Jefferson, Stony Brook and Setauket.

A bulk of the money will be in the form of a $600,000 serial bond to facilitate plant upgrades in one local sewer district and meet requirements for outside funding for a project that would "decrease nitrogen discharge into the Long Island Sound through Port Jefferson Harbor, thus increasing the health of its ecosystem and protecting area bathers" in addition to meeting Long Island Sound Study requirements, the statement read.

Additionally, $50,000 will be allocated for site improvements in 2013 to provide fencing at McAllister County Park located on the eastern point of the mouth of Port Jefferson Harbor.

The money will be used to replace a failing fence that is used to prevent visitors from accessing an unsecured, dangerous and environmental sensitive section of the county park, according to the statement.

The balance of the money will go toward proposed projects in the Three Village area.

Hahn said funding these projects "delivers on Suffolk County’s current infrastructure commitments and lays the groundwork for the future economic development needed to spur job creation for our residents."
