Port Jeff Village Board Declines to Vote on Raises

Decision tabled until another date.

On Monday, the board of trustees for Port Jefferson decided not to vote themselves a salary increase, according to Village Clerk Robert Juliano who said there was a discussion but no vote.

"No vote was taken but it was taken off the agenda and may be discussed again in the future," he said. "It never came to a formal vote but was agreed that by not acting it would be a dead issue."

The Port Times Record reported Thursday on the raise saying that the board contemplated an increase in annual pay from $7,000 to $12,500.

"Before taking the decision off the agenda, the board discussed possibly lowering the increase, instead raising the salaries to $10,000," reporter Brittany Wait wrote in the story.
