Jury Awards $130 Million Payout for Port Jefferson Hospital Malpractice

A state jury this week awarded a $130 million claim to a Bayport family against St. Charles Hospital related to hospital's delivery of a baby girl in Nov. 2002 who developed cerebral palsy.

A state jury this week awarded a $130 million claim to a Bayport family against St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson related to hospital's delivery of a baby girl in Nov. 2002 who developed cerebral palsy.

According to Newsday, the jury found the hospital to be guilty of malpractice when the baby's oxygen supply was limited, causing brain damage.

While the family fight has gone on for 10 years against the hospital, their daughter, Shannon Reilly, has needed special treatment due to the limiting nature of her condition. Lawyers for the Reilly family told Newsday that Shannon cannot speak, walk, write or even swallow without help.
