Sidewalk Maps For Residents, Business Owners Digging Out

Some helpful links to maps that will help people understand snow clearing policies for Port Jefferson village.

Another storm has dumped snow on Port Jefferson and the village is in the process of digging itself out. The village web page has published a few helpful links about clearing sidewalks in town.

According to a statement on the website all other sidewalks in the village are the responsibility of the owners of the parcels of land adjacent to those sidewalks. 

Port Jefferson Chief Constable Wally Tomaszewski has said that if a snow storm is forecast, then the code officers go out to hand out notices warning people to clear their sidewalks and move vehicles off the roadways.

Code officers will issue summonses if the sidewalk is not cleared within 24 hours of the initial warning carrying fines of up to $250.

For people who are handicapped or elderly and need assistance clearing walkways, the village asks those individuals to call Village Hall to register their property.
