Part of Local History, Port Jeff Station Site Now In Contract

Iberger family ran John Deere tractor shop on Jefferson Avenue property for many years.

They used to service and sell John Deere tractors on the property on Jefferson Avenue and the owners lived in a house right next door.

The Ibergers – a family with a long history in the Port Jefferson Station area –sold their parcel to the Rampones, owners of the now-closed Ramp Chevy car dealership on Route 112. For a while they kept cars parked on the lot but they eventually decided to put it up for sale, listing with Carol Acker an agent with Douglas Elliman Real Estate Company.

The property is currently in contract including the residential portion, according to the agent. Acker said it provides a buffer between the parcel zoned J-2 for general business and the typical suburban neighborhood on Jefferson Avenue next to it.

The area has undergone a renaissance of sorts over the past five years, according to Acker who listed the property along with her assistant Alexia, who also happens to be her daughter. Acker credits the recent renovation of Route 112 for giving a “positive jolt” to the area.

Across the street is Port Jefferson Sport, which relocated from Jefferson Plaza. After years of sitting vacant, construction has begun on a new Hess Gas Station on the intersection across from the property. And demolition on the old telephone building north on Route 112 was recently done making way for a brand new L.A. Fitness gym.

“From where Port Jefferson Station was five years ago, it was almost non-existent with activity,” Acker said. “Now it has exploded.”
