How Real Estate Has Evolved

How the real estate industry has changed over the past decade.

Real Estate Technology

The real estate business has gone through some changes, along with all other businesses, due to the massive advancement in technology over the last decade.

About a decade ago only about one third of the people searching for homes turned to the internet. At the time the top real estate marketing methods were yard signs, newspaper ads and open houses. While we still see yard signs, newspaper ads and open houses, real estate agents and prospective buyers have a number of new tools to use that have changed the way real estate is sold.

Back before computers and the internet exploded onto the market the real estate business operated in a very different way. Agents had listing books and they would possess the information which they would use to aid clients in finding prospective homes. Now customers have unlimited access with most if not all listings easily available on the internet for them to search at their leisure. Real estate sites get over 12 million visitors per month. These sites provide almost everything the buyer could want. They have multiple photos of most properties, online videos, mapping features and neighborhood reports. Websites are also important for real estate agents because of their ability to attract buyers and market property.

There have also been some other changes to the real estate business. Blogging has become very important. Blogs are easy ways for real estate agents to get information out in a medium that is easy for prospective buyers to find. They talk about properties specifically, give general information about the areas in which they work, explain options and give general real estate advice.

Some new technology includes virtual assistants. These are highly trained professional in subspecialties. They handle anything that does not require them to be physically present. This frees the real estate agent up to handle all the face to face contact with the client, which is what they excel at.

Now the new technology just starting to break into the real estate market is the use of smart phones to sent updates and alerts to customers about properties. Do you have the app for that?
