15-Year-Old Dylan Brady Speaks to Students About Tourette Syndrome

Student ambassador holds forum at Port Jefferson Middle School on Tourette syndrome

Dylan Brady, 15, spoke to students at Port Jefferson Middle School to educate them on Tourette Syndrome. Brady, a student at North Shore Middle School and youth ambassador for the Long Island Tourette Association, has been traveling around holding forums to educate others on the disease. This past week, Brady was welcomed into the Port Jefferson School District to host a presentation.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Tourette syndrome (TS) is a neurological disorder that causes repetition, involuntary movements, and vocalization issues. It is estimated that 200,000 Americans are effected by this disease.

On the district's website, Monica Consalvo, middle school special education teacher and organizer of the event, said “It was an interactive learning experience to show students that although we may have a challenge, we can all achieve success and should be proud of who we are. Dylan shared that he is an athlete, student, twin brother and a singer in a band – all things that make him just like them.”
