Comsewogue Board of Ed President Re-Elected; New Vice President Sworn In

John Swenning returns to his previous post while Francisca Alabau-Blatter has been elected as vice president.

The Comsewogue Board of Education this week acted unanimously in choosing its leadership for the upcoming 2013-14 school year.

John Swenning, who has served on the school board since 2003, was re-elected to the post of president and enters his third consecutive year in that position. He was also the president of the school board during the 2005-06 school year and was vice president in 2010-11.

In addition, Francisca Alabau-Blatter, recently re-elected to her second term on the Board of Education, was chosen by her fellow board members as its new vice president.

Both Swenning and Alabau-Blatter said they want the school board to continue working as a cohesive unit.

"I'd like to continue our transparency with the community," Alabau-Blatter said. "I'm just here as a voice. I'm part of a team, and the team right now is working very well. I want that to continue."

Swenning agreed, saying: "I just think that our whole group is working awesome. I think all trustees are as important as any position. The reason why we've been so successful here is because everybody works hard. ... We just hope for continued success."
