After Graduating, Port Jeff Station Scout Gives Back to His School

For his final project Nicholas Guma built tables for Comsewogue High School.

Port Jefferson Station's Boy Scout Troop 454 has a new Eagle Scout as Nicholas Guma ascended to a rank that only a very few ever attain. For his final project he constructed two hexagon tables with benches and installed them in a courtyard at to give back to the school he graduated from.

According to his father, Guma made two tables for the school with the help of scouts and students from Troop 454 and Troop 354, both from the Port Jefferson Station area.

His Court of Honor -- where Guma received his Eagle Scout award -- was held at on June 15. Suffolk County Legis. Kara Hahn presented a proclamation to Guma for his accomplishment.

One hundred years ago, a 17-year old Long Island boy named Arthur Eldred earned America's first Eagle Scout Award. Since that day in 1912, only four percent of all Scouts ever attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
