Port Jeff School Board Seeks Replacement For Frey

Any interested members of the community should contact district clerk's office.

When Robert Frey the remaining trustees were left with three choices to deal with his open seat: appoint a replacement, hold a special election or leave the seat vacant.

On Tuesday night the board decided to appoint a new trustee picked from interested applicants from the community.

Any resident interested in being considered for the appointment must contact the districk clerk by 5 p.m. on Nov. 21. The trustee appointed by the board will serve until May 15, 2012, the date of the next board of education election.

After the next election, the winning candidate receiving the highest number of votes will complete Dr. Frey’s unexpired term, which ends June 30, 2012 and then continue serving a new three-year term ending on June 30, 2015.

Port Jefferson School District residents 18 years and older, who want to be considered for the appointment should write a letter of interest to the district clerk, including a biography or resume, brief statement summarizing the qualifications for service, and any other information appropriate for consideration.

To be considered you must have been a school district resident for at least one year and a citizen of the United States.

Letters of interest will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Nov. 21. The board of education will screen the letters and conduct interviews with candidates, with an appointment target date of Dec. 13.
