Port Jeff Station Student Receives Chancellor’s Award From SUNY

Award recognizes students who display academic and extracuricular excellence.

Port Jefferson Station’s Michael Cespites, a student from Suffolk County Community College’s Ammerman Campus in Selden, was one of over 200 students to receive a 2012 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence from the State University of New York, according to a statement from the college.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher congratulated the students saying that they took full advantage of the classroom and community programs that SUNY provides.

“These proven leaders, athletes, artists, and civic volunteers truly represent the power of SUNY," Zimpher said.

According to the school, campus presidents selects students to be nominated for the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence created in 1997 to recognize academic excellence combined with achievements in leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, campus involvement, or career achievement. Recipients receive a framed certificate and medallion.
