Port Jefferson Students Enjoy New Weather Station

Equipment was purchased through a grant from the Royal Educational Foundation.

Edna Louise Spear Elementary School has a new weather station thanks to a grant from the Royal Educational Foundation, the Port Jefferson School District announced this week.

Students jumped in right away to learn about predicting the weather. The weather station is open to all classes, and it encourages students to be "weather reporters" by sharing weather information with their classmates.

“This is a great extension to our science unit on weather,” said second grade teacher Darlene Wells, who wrote the proposal that yielded the grant. “The children have learned about states of matter, the water cycle, clouds, rainbows, types of storms and tools meteorologists use to generate a forecast.”
