Christine Davis Fights To Keep Local Farm Stand Afloat In Port Jefferson Station

The Davis Peach Farm Stand Is Open For Business

Originally from Farmingville, Christine Davis, is trying to keep her over 200-year family tradition alive with her latest farm stand located in Port Jefferson Station. Christine is one of the last living members of the Davis Peach Farm located in Wading River.

After looking for the right location, Davis said she found an opening on Boyle Road and knew it was the spot she wanted. "We were looking for a farm stand that didn't have the development rights sold because when they are sold you are very limited to what you can and can't do. So here, we can bring everything from our farm and our friends farms," said Davis. "This is a great community with great people and I knew this would be a perfect place for our stand."

Davis said the peach farm features more than 80 varieties of peaches, over 50 varieties of plums, 30 varieties of nectarines, and more then 20 varieties of apples.

"If you come in and you don't like something I can tweak it or find something else for you. I have personal conversations with every single customer that comes into my store. I am offering something bigger stores aren't and that is personalization," said Davis. "I care. If you want something and I don't have it, I will get it, if it's in season. I want to make my customers happy."

Now as the last of the Davis family, Christine said it's all on her to keep her family farming tradition alive. "I am going to be the one that goes down in history as ruining the family legacy if this doesn't work," said Davis. "We have had some hard times because of weather issues. In the grand scheme of things after 228 years I am in control I am at risk of losing everything."

Christine said residents don't need to spend hundreds to help her keep the stand alive and well. "Come here and shop. You don't have to spend a million dollars. I have a woman that comes in four times a week and only spends $2 and apologizes. Why apologize? You are in here four times a week spending $2. All of those things help. So please come in and check out what we have," said Davis. "I want this to survive. I think it's needed in the community. Too many of us are gone…I am not making a lot of money but this is what we do. We can't do it unless we have people coming in."

The Davis Peach Farm Stand is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is located on 284 Boyle Road in Port Jefferson Station.
