Family Escapes Fully Involved House Fire in Port Jefferson Station

On Tuesday night June 24, 2014 Suffolk County Police Department received a 911 call from a family reporting a house fire. Unconfirmed reports indicated a language barrier between the 911 operator and the caller. Initial reports into Suffolk County 911 indicated a stove fire in the residence. Terryville Fire Department was activated to the reported structure fire at 15 Dean Street at 10:12 PM. Upon arrival of Terryville Fire Department Safety Officer Ed Simonetti, he encountered heavy smoke and flames visible from the rear of the one story single family dwelling.

Under the command of Terryville Fire Department Chief Keith Olsen, the first due engine company hit the hydrant east of the structure and stretched fully charged hose lines toward the burning structure. Assistance was requested from multiple neighboring fire departments including Port Jefferson, Selden, and Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance Company. It took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

All occupants of the home safely evacuated the residence without injury. No injuries were reported to any fire personnel or other civilians. The Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
