Simone Torres Fails to Make X-Factor Cut

A poor song choice may have been the factor in Simone Torres elimination on Thursday night.

The 19-year old Port Jefferson Station resident who wowed the judges on a powerful and well-received rendition on Mustang Sally on her audition failed to impress with her version of Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come.”

Local Biz Rallies Largest Walk Team at ALS Event

Last year they had the largest Long Island Walk to Defeat ALS team in history; an event hosted by a nonprofit organization that seeks to conquer Lou Gehrig's Disease, the fatal neurological illness sometimes known for the Yankee first baseman, one of its most famous victims.

This year, Cullen's Crusaders, from the Port Jefferson Station-based accounting firm Cullen & Danowski,were not able to rally quite so many people to the cause for various reasons but they still walked away with the honor of bringing the largest team to theWalk to Defeat ALS on Sept. 22 at Eisenhower Park.

James Cress Florists Blooms in a New Location

Floral staple James Cress Florists is going back to their roots and moving their shop just a few parking lots over to their former location.

The florist will move from the Port Jefferson Station home they share with Carpet Connection on Nesconset Highway to 36 Nesconset Hwy., which is just west of their old location.

Closure of Rose Lane Jams Traffic in Port Jeff Station

Local residents lamenting traffic jams due to the Rose Lane closure will likely be feeling the pain for the upcoming weeks.

The Rose Lane closure began in July and according to the State Department of Transportation, it is expected to continue throughout fall, with no end date specified.
